Rank Group, the Gaming giant is lining up an expansion plan worth £50m that will mean it will build 10 casinos and creating around 800 jobs over the coming few years.
With the group having a positive set of results last week, they observed a turnover for the half-year increase by 6% to £281m and their profits rise from £27m to £67m. Ian Burke, the chief executive has given the all clear to build at least 5 new casinos within the next 2 years.
Subject to planning permission and licensing , they will be opening in Scarborough, Birmingham, Manchester, Stockton-on-Tees, and Liverpool at an estimated cost of £23m. Rank Group estimates that around 300 new jobs opportunities will be created.
Rank also plans to build a further five at a cost of £30 million as well as the ones previously mentioned. The group is looking for suitable sites in Reading, Southend-on-Sea, Edinburgh, Birmingham an Birkenhead. They say that 500 more jobs are expected to be created as a result of this further expansion.
In the meantime, the company is waiting to find out if it has held off competition from rival casino operators Apollo, Aspers, Genting and Great Eastern Quays for the rights to build and operate a casino in Newham, East London.
The Profits at Rank’s Grosvenor and G Casinos grew by twenty percent in the first half of this year to £17.6m. Also customer numbers for the past 12 months have topped for the first time a million.
